Equality & Diversity

As a committed proponent of Equality and Diversity, Emerald prohibits prejudicial and discriminatory behaviour in all its forms, on the basis of race, religion or belief, age, disability, sex, gender, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, and sexual orientation. In order to achieve our aim of providing services and work environments that are safe, caring, equitable and free from discrimination, harassment and bullying Emerald will:

\

Respect the racial/ethnic origins, beliefs, religions, cultures and languages of foster carers, staff and other parties, ensuring that all people feel valued

\

Promote cultural competence amongst carers and staff; ensuring that the services we provide are culturally appropriate and do not conform to harmful stereotypes

\

Ensure that cultural awareness is used as strength and does not prevent us from tackling challenging and sensitive issues, particularly those pertaining to safeguarding

\

Ensure that our service provision and  recruitment policies and processes are fair, open and non-discriminatory

\

Work to fulfil the legal requirements of the Equality Act 2010

\

Conduct annual impact assessments in order to assess the efficacy and inclusiveness of our policies and procedures

\

Challenge inappropriate attitudes and practices by engaging in positive discussion and staff modelling anti-discriminatory behaviour at all times

\

Ensure that carers and staff receive relevant and appropriate training

\

Ensure that carers and staff are given appropriate and effective support should they have any specific needs relating to disability, health and wellbeing

\

Appropriate action is taken, including disciplinary action if necessary, should instances of discriminatory behaviour, harassment or bullying occur

\

Take all steps to ensure the complex needs of the children in our care are met, in accordance with their best interests, and that their voices are heard, valued and placed at the heart of service provision
